Boston Common stereoview described as showing the only Massachusetts game action. Photo is by John D Heywood and published by Frank Rowell, who was Heywood's publisher from 1863 to 1865. Believe yellow mount is indication of stereoview from that time period also.

Jarvis field (Harvard), by George K Warren, with practice or game in progress. In 1869 the Red Stockings played on this field.

I believe this to be a tintype of Tim Murnane. Photographer is J R Applegate, Vine Street Gallery, Philadelphia. I would appreciate any help on the identification. Thank you

So - you own that tintype. I've been asked about this one. I can't eliminate the possibility that it is Murnane. One can actually make a strong argument that it's him - too many individualizing characteristics seem to match. This one is associated with another tintype claimed to depict Joe Battin - that one also appears to be correct.

1869 red stocking sheet music in a period frame.

I like this thread so much I am stretching it a bit to show this painting. Although not from the 19th century, it depicts A G Spalding from the famous Warren cabinet pose. Not sure who painted or when, but it will have to serve as my Warren cabinet for now. I got it in a Hunt auction, which described it as possibly King Kelly.

One more painting, also not from 19th century, but entitled "an old timer at the bat", by Griswold Tyng, a student of Howard Pyle. It was likely painted about 1910 to 1920. I like to think the catcher's mask, which is featured is somehow connected to James Tyng. If anyone knows anything about where this appeared, or a connection between the artist and James Tyng, I would love to hear about it. I have seen his work as calendars and magazine illustration.
