It's the Empire State Building.
http://a.amz.mshcdn.com/wp-content/u.../Empire-14.jpg Edit to add, just noticed you also want the direction. Definitely towards Queens. You can see the lake in Central Park to the right of the tallest building in the distance (the dark one to the leftish). Last edited by jhs5120; 06-21-2016 at 10:06 AM. |

Thanks Jason, I'm trying to pin point the building with the two towers on the right. I always thought it was the El Dorado, I see the lake now in the distance!
I was praying that wall with the rolled top still exists, but they newest photos look like it has been changed or blocked off

The view is not looking east (towards Queens) .The view is looking north (towards the Bronx). The large dark building on the left is the old GE Building (known now as 30 Rock). Beyond is the lake in Central Park. I think you will be able to take a similar photo from that spot (at least you were able to a few years ago, the last time i was there) but there is now a cast iron fence there.
Good luck. |

Yes, north makes sense with central park in the spot. I'm curious to take a look and post my completed photo

Ted,
This family photo looks like it features the area slightly to the right of where your grandparents are standing. I did a Google search for "Empire State Building Observation Deck" and Voila! You can even see the famous Chrysler Building in the background.
