There are many that still attack the Monster even though they know they will never own the Wagner. That being said, Larry's comment is the reason I will never attempt the '52 Topps set because I know I will never be able to purchase the Mantle. Growing up maybe 12.50 miles from the Astrodome, The 1963 Pepsi set has been the *dream* set for me since I first heard about it in the mid '70's. My desire to purchase the card is strong. Unfortunately, my quest to even see the card in person has been as successful as Ponce de Leon's quest for the fountain of youth. When it is all said and done, hopefully my quest will be more successful than his. \--John |

I have come to realize there are certain cards I will likely never get to complete certain sets, either because they never come up or when they do go for obscene amounts of money. I have a Topps run 48 and 51 to 2016. That includes all 5 sets that Topps put out in 1951. Among them was The Current All Star set which consists of 8 issued cards and 3 cards, Roberts, Stankey and Konstanty, that were never issued at retail. There are likely less of them in existence than the Bateman.
So, I have settled for the creation of another board member to fill the void and spots in my binder. Like Bob Lemke's Bateman, no one would confuse these 3 with the real things in hand. ![]() ![]() Bob often sells his creations on his blog site. I have bought several. I think his Bateman would be a great fill in until the real one comes along. I used one of Bob's creation to fill my void of card 145 in my 1958 Topps set ![]() Bob---are you ever going to take on the 3 1960 legends, Cimoli, Hadley and Throneberry Last edited by ALR-bishop; 06-06-2016 at 02:24 PM. |

I've had the trio of 1951 All-Stars on my to-do list for years.
Truthfully, never thought of replicating the 1960 proofs trio. I don't believe I have the front photos in my files.
