Jackie Robinson 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 glass plate negative. The uniform dates the photo to 1948 or 1949, but he is wearing a first baseman's mitt, so it is likely 1948 as he didn't play first in 1949. I have not been able to identify the stadium he is in. There is a notation 51B, but I have no idea what it stands for. It isn't the year 1951 as the uniform was different. The main uniform difference is where the "g" in Dodgers lines up. After 1949, the g was either on or to the left of the left vertical stripe. Only in 1948 and 1949 did the g line up exactly with the buttons. I confirmed this with Marc Okkonen's Dressed to the Nines exhibit on the BB HOF's website.
The overall condition of the negative is fantastic outside of a small linear scratch to the emulsion side. It is approx 1cm long. You can see the effect in the photo to the left of his left shoulder. The blemish really doesn't impact the quality of the image produced.
$500 for this second year Robinson negative. Shipping included.
