I think there is a good reason why certain AH's don't show you what the bid looks like with premium until the invoice arrives.

Heritage computes it for you and they get phenomenal prices.

Won Lot 426 --- 139 T206s.

Of the only 24 cards listed and shown, really only need this fellow

Going to be FUN opening and seeing what the other 115 cards look like. Decent (good) price, and it'll keep off the streets for a while .......

Great stuff, Scott

I am having some remorse. I thought long and hard about the 33 Delong Lionel Carter set. I know that I can get a 33 Delong set in the future, but I doubt I will ever be able to get that set! It went for 5 grand + 1 grand BP. I stopped at 4 grand. It was at $4,750 last night and had been there for a while. It went up only $250. I woke up early this morning for the 1/2 Marathon and the auction hadn't closed yet. I am getting ready to buy a motorcycle this month, so my wife and I agreed that it was an either/or proposition. At breakfast, I thought that I am pretty deep into my 54, 55, and 56 sets with each probably pushing 5-6k with the number of grade 6 & 7 superstars and HOFers. I don't want to sell them, but I knew that I could get them again - but I would not be able to get Carter's Delongs. So, I had a quick conversation with the Mrs about using consignment credit for the sake of making one final push (I would pay up front, but the understanding was that I would consign in the fall and reimburse the account). I would then make whatever set I sold be my next project and start again.

I got the head nod, was getting ready to make one final push as I had gotten final warning. I popped open the computer and it had just closed. Maybe 5250 or 5500 doesn't get it, but I am going to wish I pulled the trigger...

Yeah the one consolation in those situations is that it's quite possible the next bid wouldn't have won it anyhow. Been there done that for sure.

That Delong set was really nice. I was watching that lot, just to see what kind of price it would fetch.

Back in 2004 I had the high bid on a T206 Wagner (Authentic) going to the last day. Two more bids came in, and I couldn't go higher.

I told this story to my current girlfriend. We met in 2005. She always says that if she had been there, she would have helped me, and we couldhave gotten a Wagner.

Except for this: I found out that the winner of that card was Keith Olberrman. I could have made multiple bids, and he still would have beat me. So maybe you would have gotten them with one more bid, and maybe not. Could be someone wanted them much more that you did. Lets hope that you get another chance soon.

A.J., great going. You finished the 1914 CJ set? Even the Mathewson? That really is something.

Fortunate to pick up the Ruth PSA 4. Thought it was going to go a bit higher.

I appreciate the pep talk. I have been bummed all day. I know that the Gehrig wasn't great, but it did feel like 6 grand after BP was a reasonable price - especially with the provenance - would you agree? Knowing my personality, I would have ended up 10 grand into it committed to winning, late for the race, and irritating everyone else as the reason that the auction had not yet closed. I have been reading all of the Carter letters here on the board. I watched the Mastro video and I love the picture of the newspaper article where he is showing off the Delongs around 1950. Something about that set really spoke to me. Maybe someday it will show up again. I will be more on the ball when that happens...

Reeled in a MINO and also snagged the J Wood Studio Esterbrook. Almost, but backed away from all the T214's and T215's...I thought the Orange Borders box and the Cameo Pepsins were good deals, but did not have those on my bidder card...Rob

Boy, 6 years ago a partial set went off the board at $14K! That is quite the price drop.

http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/.../2009/529.html

Was the 2009 set superior to the current offering?

I know the feeling. Back in 2003, I was the underbidder on a T206 Plank on ebay. I bid $16,100, and it went for $16,200. I know I probably wouldn't've won it at $16,300, but it still hurts, as I'll undoubtedly never again have the chance at a Plank.

Congratulations to all the winners, especially A.J. and Pete on the Cracker Jacks and Ruth RC!

Fantastic pickups, everyone!

This is my first REA win, and these two cards once resided in Jim Blumenthal's amazing collection.

Default Negro Leagues

I thought that the Rube Foster cabinet photo went for a healthy price given the state of the Negro League market these days. Also, thought that the '52 Xalapa team photo w/Dihigo & Buck Leonard was quite a bargain for someone......
