Wow thats great, thanks for posting. I went to the 1986 and 1990 National Conventions, boy, it would have been something to go to this one!!!!

As a followup to the above account of the very first sports collectors' convention from the November 1969 Ballcard Collector, written by one of the hosts, Jim Nowell, here is another detailed account of that convention from the October 1969 The Trader Speaks. It's written by Dennis Graye, who arrived on the Wednesday before the Saturday convention and stayed with Nowell. As you would expect, the two accounts are very similar but not identical, as they emphasize different things, and Graye's article has pictures! It's nice to get two different perspectives on that momentous event.

The convention was expecting 20 collectors but only drew 13. It was sort of a lean (hobbyist) membership getting started but those guys sure had a ton of fun.
