Maybe it's to try and psych the opponent out? Maybe to amp up the batter going to the plate?
Pretty sure Mariano Rivera used "Enter Sandman" no I'm no Metallica fan but I do know that "some" people would find their music to be intimidating. Mo's job was to put the batters to sleep
