I worked as an air traffic controller USAF four years and then 29 years with the FAA. Mandatory retirement forced me out at age 57 (should have been age 56 but I was able to get extended). So I've been retired for five years and I don't miss working even one bit

Nuclear Plant worker here.

In year 34 and plan on retiring within the next couple, or less?

I worked 6 years on construction pouring concrete (hard work!) helping to build the place and got into the operations part of it in early 89.

For those that are wondering, it is nothing like the Simpson's, at least the plant I work at isn't.

I'm a second/third shift Production Manager for Rogers Foam Corporation located in Somerville, MA where I live. I started as a production worker 32 years ago and never left. We don't make foam, we fabricate foam product into all different shapes and sizes for thousands of different uses from packaging for missiles, rollers for printers or buffing pads for waxing your car. I enjoy my job very much as it varies with the different types of jobs that come in. Never the same thing day in and day out. Always new challenges as new products are developed. I also love my commute as it is a 10-15 minute walk every day regardless of traffic or weather conditions.

Thanks to all for their military service, they are our true heroes.

I spent 3 years working at Plant Vogtle near Waynesboro Ga when it was being built. I was a carpenter building the forms so the concrete could be poured. You are correct in saying it was hard work.

I am currently a superintendent for a small general contractor. We travel all over the eastern half of the US doing work. I've been with the company 26 1/2 years and have worked in 26 states.

Just Googled that place and seeing all the rebar brings back haunting memories!

Actually, our plant looked to have about double that in the pics.

I needed the rod busters once as my path down the wall we were pouring changed as the concrete came up.

Only happened once as I was far more cautious/aware of my surroundings after that!

Well, I should probably clarify that. I have a doctorate. I work in medical center fundraising...and mainly cancer center fundraising. Incredibly rewarding. Also incredibly sad at times, but very, very rewarding.

I spend my time now playing softball, growing tomatoes and whatever I want.
