I remember on every Oakland As game the announcers always had to make sure that the two Henderson's in the OF had 'no relation'...

Yesterday was a bad day in the baseball circles. Henderson, longtime Braves coach Bobby Dews, longtime writer covering the Cardinals Joe Strauss, former Reds pitcher Jim O'Toole and longtime scout Keith Ryman all passed away

Henderson was a local television color commentator for the Mariners games and was good.

This is sad news, he was fun to watch because he was clearly having fun playing the game. I remember a Brewers-A's game at County Stadium in Milwaukee in the late 80s/early 90s. There was an extremely long injury delay followed by a pitching change during which the stadium started playing music. Hendu was in right that day and my friends and I, kids at the time, were up front way down the 1st base line. We started shouting "dance, Hendu, dance" at him because he looked like he liked the music. He smiled at first but when we persisted he started actually dancing for everyone (while laughing). That is one of my fondest baseball memories from my childhood. RIP Hendu.

As a lifelong Angels fan, from their early 60's LA days, I remember Dave Henderson's 9th inning 2-out 2-strike homerun off Donnie Moore in the 1986 AL Championship Series as if it was yesterday. The Angels were one strike away from going to their first World Series. The anticipation was palpable, and the win seemed all but assured. Then.......the homerun. The Angels never recovered, and the Red Sox and Bill Buckner went on to lose to the Mets. BTW, Donnie Moore was an exceptional reliever/closer but was never the same after that devastating loss. The rest is the very tragic story of Donnie Moore. I couldn't even watch the replay for years. But, as time went on I could watch the replay and actually enjoy the pure thrill exhibited by Dave Henderson as he rounded the bases. RIP Dave.
