Nice catch Scot. I went and checked the Feb 9, 1889 issue of The Sporting News, and the Denver reserve list includes M McQuaid. We got the name James from the Cartophilic Society listing. We now also know the date of his birth and death.
The book was never envisioned as a "finished" work, albeit it was pretty far along. Every year we seem to learn some new facts, find some new poses, and yes correct some errors. Thank you for helping make my annotated copy a little more accurate.

Guys,

Thanks for the great information. The last thing I want to do is nitpick your tremendous work. I know from personal experience about the inevitability of minor oversights in a work about vintage cards -- especially one as sweeping and definitive as yours. All writing is, in the end, an experiment. Thanks again.
