Nice Matt! And Layne wasn't one of my two, so there are at least 2 more. And he goes straight through to 62 with no gaps!

Charlie, great job! You reeled off four like it was nothing. The two I had were the two Eagles - Bednarik and Pihos.

Matt, what's the Layne quote? He didn't wind up on good terms with Detroit? If memory serves, he led the Lions to back-to-back titles in the 50s against good Browns teams with Otto Graham.

It's something to the along the lines of " I hope his city doesn't win another championship for 50 years". He was quite upset after doing so well for Detroit they they would trade him.

Appreciate everyone jumping in and helping out. I've never done a player "set" as my tendency is to prefer one card/item of a lot of different players, but these 5:

Bobby Layne, Charley Conerly, Pete Pihos, Chuck Bednarik, Charley Trippi

would be interesting candidates to me as they were basically there from the beginning of annual mainstream football card issues. Bednarik especially has a nice run - beyond the Leaf (48-49), Bowmans (50-55), you get several Topps cards (incl. 48), at least one Fleer card and something I saw on the registry that I never heard of:

1962 SALADA COINS CHUCK BEDNARIK

Anyone have more info on the Salada Coins?

Surprised to see Motley did not have cards 1948-55 consecutively; 1948-52 Exhibits, 1950 Bowman, 1951 Bowman, 1953 Bowman, did not play in 1954, and no cards in 1955? There maybe a regional distribution to bridge the gap, like the 1950 Sohio.
