That's all it is -- "a piece of paper coming unglued" -- because that's all they are, thin paper glued to thin cardboard.
Exposure to moisture -- possibly even just prolonged high humidity -- or conversely, excessive heat and dryness, can have the effect of weakening the glue. Such is our experience, anyhow...

Thanks Butch7999. That does make some sense. I suspect that the card is authentic because under magnification, I can't find any flaws or tells versus other 1963 Post cards.
Other Post cards though look as if they are printed directly on the cardboard. My experience is that vintage cards don't have their surfaces peel off so cleanly but rather flake off or the cardboard separates into layers. These are clean peels. Go figure. Thanks for the help! Vince |
