I don't think this is such a case, especially since the potential buyer didn't see the chamberlain post. $550 is pretty close to the market value of the card. He wasn't exactly stealing it. A good example of why you don't send paypal ff unless you really know a seller.

i guess but you don't see many iconic cards on net54 with prices rising for clear below market price....at least the card is only a card in the 100s not 1000s..the fact there were 4 or 5 people jumping at the chance to buy and already a 'fight' on timestamp...pretty much shows too good to be true.....has there been any other thread this year where there was a poster pointing out a timestamp? (I really don't know ) if not..then the only one happens to involve seller fraud? guess a big coincidence...

Here is what happened.

Card is posted.
An hour later, I'm like, cool I need that.
PM the fraudster.
Send payment.
Then ebitz jumps in with whatever he and his scammer buddy are up to.
My G&S payment comes back.
Then I see the Wilt thread.
Inform Robert to get his money back.
End of story.

First of I wanna say that I hope no one got ripped off and everyone gets their money back. I agree that $550 wasn't a steal, but it is a $700 card and $150 off a VERY popular HOF Rookie is as close a steal your gonna get. Also sending PP ff to a newbie is very risky.

for net54 its a steal on that type of VERY popular card , a red flag right there..

I guess if we see a 1952 topps centered Mantle rookie PSA 4 for $17,000 from a new poster...we shouldn't jump on that either!..

+1..A couple minutes ago is the first I have seen of any of this..I have left a voicemail for the OP and banned him until we speak. It sounds like a very young person and we'll see if I get a call back. It is a working number so that is not going to be good for a scammer if he is smart enough to give a good number. And also, if anyone on this board does this kind of a deal without clicking his 5 other posts, then they are naive or something.....This could all be ok but I am not optimistic....

ps...not to mention he joined a whopping 2 days ago, and all of this is public info on the board

That's why I sent the payment G&S. It bounced back in about 5 minutes as a refund. My post of, What no card? Or better offer? Was rhetorical and I need to realize that things don't sound the way they do in my head when I type them. I sold a few things on here with little to no posts when a became an active member.
But then I not a scammer.

I made note of the timestamp because I had PMed the gentleman instead of posting in the thread. I don't always like to advertise my interest in a card. Then when I saw people posting "I'll take it" in the thread, I thought maybe that is where I needed to make my intentions known that I was trying to purchase the card.

right and if he said he didn't get the message..there would of been a large discussion about timestamps etc...or if got the message there could of been a dispute..if everything was legit

heck you saw the one guy think that maybe the seller got a higher offer or didn't have the card...I just haven't seen any other B/S/T this year where someone had to note their PM timestamp.....just on this card which I believe supports the notion that its too good to be true and likely fraud taking advantage of greed. etc..

1952boyntoncollector could I see images I'm interested in both cards.

I was hoping to join a new forum that didn't make a habit of bashing each other but apparently this one is just like all of the others.

PS I have 100% feedback on ebay since 1999 with over 2400 positive feedbacks and zero negatives as well as 165 positive feedbacks without any negatives on the blowout forum since 2010.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum (sarcasm)

Jake, I get where you're coming from, but I have to respectfully disagree with the conclusion you've drawn here. The price alone was not indicative of fraud. I've seen cards offered a good deal below list in order to expedite the sale. How are we to know the motivation behind the owner's discount? Perhaps they need to create liquidity quickly. Maybe there is an emergency, or a bill has come up that needs to be paid right away. Or, maybe they have two examples of the same card, and they are selling one at a discount in order to create the cash needed to buy another card.

In a situation like this, I would submit a message to the seller that "I am interested in buying the card. What are your terms?" Hopefully, this indication beats everybody else, getting me the first crack at the card. While I'm waiting for the seller to reply, I'm looking for clues as to the card owner's history. If I'm spending even a few hundred bucks to buy a card from somebody I've not dealt with before, or that I don't know as honest by reputation here, I'm going to look at how long they've been a member of Net 54. I'm looking at their post history, looking to see what transactions they've completed. And, if I have questions, I have no problem shooting off a quick private message to a member who has done business with them. I won't ask for specific price information, as I respect that some board members do not wish to divulge this. What I will ask, however, is how well this other member communicated, when the transaction was finalized, how quickly the card was delivered, and how much care was utilized in packing the card. I'm doing all I can to ensure that the seller is legit.

In this case, after my initial indication of interest, I'd have seen their fraudulent attempt to sell the basketball card, and I'd have withdrawn my interest after posting on the sale thread that they were not legit. I'd have then contacted a moderator.
