October Autogragh Pick Up Thread

A few recent pickups:

Vincent Richards - Was the most successful tennis player in a single Olympics with two gold medals and one silver medal in 1924. Unless mixed doubles is reintroduced this record will not be broken (Sorry Williams sisters). He also won 4 US National championships, one Wimbledon and one French Open all in doubles.

Jim Bausch - 1932 gold medal in the decathlon.

Philip Noel-Baker - the only person to win an Olympic medal (1920 1500m silver) and a Nobel Prize (1959 Peace).

Paavo Nurmi - one of the greatest long distance runners of all time. He won 9 gold medals and 3 silver medals mostly in the 5,000 m 10,000 m and cross country. This came with a group of identified U.S. track athletes listed as an unknown signature. A difficult signature to recognize if you have never seen it. Signed in 1940 in New York.

Receive this from HOF'er Mr. Gallatin TTM last Saturday. Probably some of the last signatures he did. I am appreciative to have received them. RIP Harry

Picked up five baseball last night signed by internet sensation Domingo Ayala.

2. Legendary author of this Book, Jaws, the Deep , Island and more. the late Peter Benchley

My latest pickup; a Mike Burke letter and signature. He ran the Yankees in the CBS years, and I think he was briefly a minority owner with Steinbrenner. He was also a counter-insurgent spy fighting the Nazis on D-Day in WWII, hung out regularly with Ernest Hemingway, and ran the Ringling Brothers Circus.
I think he is a pretty tough signature. Also, not particularly popular among Yankees fans, I think.

That was mine till I recently sold it at a CT show.

Nice pick up Sean. His wife was a North and I have never heard a good thing about one of them.
