Took a chance on this today because I love the connection to early Boston baseball. Nichols, Clarkson, Duffy & McCarthy (though no Kelly) on this exhibition scorecard from Princeton. Does anyone have any other info on this game? The scorekeeping is a bit strange.

I was watching that auction go off, as well as all the other Princeton scorecards (got out bid on a few of them). Nice pickup! You did well. The seller did not know this was the Boston Beaneaters and all the players.

Not a new pickup but just framed this today. I had Fergie sign it a couple of years ago in Cooperstown.

Just my opinion, the prettiest and the toughest of the Reds post war uniforms to find in all original condition. From the year of Pete's first National League batting title and his first Sports Illustrated cover. Interesting that in 1968, "The Year of the Pitcher", Bob Gibson wins the NL MVP and NL CY, but the St. Louis based Sporting News names Rose the NL Player of the Year.
This one is off to Cincinnati as well.. Dave Grob DaveGrob1@aol.com |

I recently picked up this vintage poster/color photo of Vander Meer that originated from the July 24th, 1938 NY Sunday News- New York's picture newspaper. The Sunday News produced several of these neat looking color pictures of key players of the day during the 1930's and 1940's.
I've always liked this image and finally found one in pretty remarkable shape. I had it custom framed with a copy of an original snapshot that I own of the celebration that occurred after Vandy's 2nd consecutive no-hitter on June 15th, 1938- the 1st night game at Ebbets Field. The caption below the image reads: "Johnny Vander Meer, No-Hit King" Below that it says: "The Cincinnati southpaw's feat of pitching two consecutive no-hit games against Boston and Brooklyn set an all-time major league record. He is 23, 6 ft. tall, weighs 190 and calls Midland Park, NJ his home town." Check it out... Last edited by Scott Garner; 06-19-2015 at 02:36 PM. |

Lots of cool stuff ths month. I especially like the Gehrig photo (natch) as well as the Vandermeer and Ott Daily news inserts. They made some really nice ones back them. Great pictures with a real artistic feel.
I have a couple of Gehrig as well. Framed them myself 1936 ![]() 1939 ![]()

Weekend swap meet pickups:
Indians programs 1968-72 1965 Atlanta Crackers ticket stubs 1981 Cleveland all star game bumper sticker Late 80's/early 90's Visalia Oaks (A) bat And less a find than a creation...one of my favorite baseball cards growing up was the 1962 Topps "Pride of the A's" card. Found a high res scan of it online, so I had it printed and mounted it poster size for the wall. Last edited by JMEnglish27; 06-22-2015 at 05:14 PM. Reason: forgot the bat! |

I picked up this 1928 Indiana High School Basketball State Finals Program recently. It features the Martinsville team led by John Wooden. The game took place at Butler Fieldhouse, now known as Hinkle Fieldhouse. This was only the 17th year the tournament had been held. Still need the ticket stub from this final.

http://www.casesforcollectibles.com/acrylicboxes.html You can name your size (H X L X W) as they're custom-made. They are crystal clear, yet affordable. I've had 7-8 of these made with great results. There's another similar company out there which you can Google as well. It would look great displayed this way! |

Picked this beauty up. I have been looking for a long time for one of these wide on 1 side goalie sticks. Condition is very nice and has a "St marys wood specialty company" mark on it and another mark I can not make out.

A ball that was in my wife's uncle's possession. Kelly Mike owned a sporting goods store in Wheeling, WV. Anyone from the area may remember Kelly Mike's?
Johnny Blatnik was also from the area, but had a really short career. On a Ford Frick National League ball. Last edited by cracker_jack; 06-23-2015 at 04:49 PM. |

Cut the backing with a Skilsaw. I've used a utility knife before.
Cut the plexi with a hand held scorer/cutter. Cut the frame 4 times with a chop saw and reassembled. Any size frame bigger than minimum in both W & L will work.

This is an official 7x9 press photo from the 1948 Olympics. It is the medal ceremony for the weightlifting in the light heavyweight class. The gold medal winner is Stanley Stanczyk of the United States. The silver medalist, standing on the left, is Harold Sakata, also of the United States. Best known as "Odd Job" in the James Bond movie 'Goldfinger'. I got this in a small lot of 1948 Olympic photos out of England.

Just realized I posted this to the card forum but likely belongs here. Oops...
I have been collecting movie posters for the better part of 30 years and have only ever seen 3 examples of this title lobby card for the film Play Ball With Babe Ruth. It is an original release poster, but the funny thing is that there is some debate as to just when the film itself was actually released. The date that I have seen is 1920, but examples of the five "shorts" that comprise the movie are available on Youtube with a copyright date of 1932. Either way, posters from the film are almost non existent. Certainly far tougher than his other films Babe Come Home, Headin Home and The Pride Of The Yankees. This will be available for sale shortly. ![]() Tom C |

Tom, great lobby card.
IMDB is pretty reliable and lists all five shorts as 1932: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0751899/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 -- although "Over the Fence" has a separate listing as a 1920 production: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3033860/?ref_=nm_knf_i2 as well as a 1932 short: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134010/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_5 There may well be two different films with the same title, both starring the Babe.
