Frederick Martin Stoehr (pronounced "stair") grew up in Altoona before signing with the 1908 Roanoke Tigers (then sold to Anderson Electricians), and pitching for the 1909-1910 Goldsboro Giants. Here are his only baseball cards.
Yes, Herb Pennock Grew up in Kennett Square, PA in the heart of mushroom country. Cheers, Mike

Thanks for the Carl Furillo post. I recall many fond memories of Carl from my youth.
He was known as the "Reading Rifle" because he had one of the greatest throwing arms in BB history. In 1951, I saw him play in Ebbets Field in an exciting game vs the Giants. Carl threw out a runner at Homeplate from his position in RF with a 300-foot throw on the fly. And, quite a number of times Carl would pick off a runner who hit a single to RF when the runner rounded beyond 1st base. Carl would throw to Gil Hodges behind the runner and get him out. Plus, Carll swung a pretty good bat. (career BA = .299), with a NL leading .344 in 1953. ............................ 1947 .................................................. 1949 .................................................. .... 1950 ![]() Carl's first three BB cards.
