Thanks Phil and Anthony - and you too, Derek (not for bidding me up, but for the kind words, haha)! And Kenny - hope you and your's are safe from the tornadoes rolling through OK tonight. Just a lot of rain here, in Spfd., MO.

And to think, I had that Judy Johnson postcard at one time, bought it for $900 and sold it for around $500 (not one of my wisest moves). Guess I should have given it to Hake's for auction. I should note, this was all well before the Merkin collection hit the market............

Thanks Ken, we're good. Just a lot of rain and some small hail. Like normal, the tornadoes were about 10 miles due north of me in Moore. Poor people. This is the 4th time that same part of Moore has been hit. One of them tore the roof off of an elementary school, but fortunately at least this time, unlike the last one a couple of years ago, there were no kids in it. So much for the weather forecaster's prediction yesterday morning that the tornado risk was "low."

Very happy with the Buy-It-Now option on the lot I got them with.

John,
#2 is from the 1943 Cigarrera Bigott set issued in Venezuela. #3 is from the 1952-53 Victoria set issued in Cuba. #4 is from Cuba. #5 on your list "1950-51 Toleteros" is actually a 1951-52 Denia card issued in Puerto Rico. Considerably more rare than Toleteros. #6 is from Cuba. -Ryan |

Thanks for the help on those! No back scans on the auction listing made it tough to decipher, but when you label the auction "Cricketers Pretty Ladies Film Stars Navy" and then not even mention the six rare baseball cards, I had to hit the Buy-It-Now before someone else made a bid on the item... ;-)

my first 1 of 1 :)
I recent pick up of an unappreciated figure in baseball history. Mike Gonzalez (on the right in this La Campana premium) was a fair player with a long playing tenure. But he is ignored as the first Latino manager as he served a couple of interm stints with the Cardinals in the 1930's. Rumored, by Willie Wells, to have been a light skinned black man

1945-46 Martin Dihigo postcard
Elected to the MLB Hall of Fame by the Negro League Committee in 1977, Martin Dihigo (top row, center) is also in the Halls of Fame of Cuba (elected in 1951), Mexico (1964), and the Dominican Republic (2010). This rare postcard pictures Dihigo with his 1945-46 Cuban Winter League champion Cienfuegos team along with teammates that included Sal Maglie, Nap Reyes, Connie Marrero, Luis Tiant, Alejandro Crespo, and manager Adolfo Luque.
