I recently picked up a nice copy of the 1939 D & M Spring & Summer Sports Equipment Catalogue.
My interest is mostly because it has two pages that prominently feature Johnny Vander Meer endorsed equipment. D & M and Goldsmith both got Vander Meer to sign endorsement deals following his noteworthy 1938 rookie season when he pitched an unprecedented back-to-back no-hitters on 6/11/38 and 6/15/38. It's a cool catalogue to look through. Here are a few pictures for those of you that may be interested... ![]() |

I recently picked up what I believe is a vintage Grambling University basketball warm-up. It is #20 and was supplied by Vic Young Sporting Goods out of Des Moines IA. I believe it is 1940/50's. I haven't been able to find any pictures or other info on Grambling basketball teams from that era. Any other thoughts on this in terms of dating it?

This one is headed to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum as the ball club has special display for Perez this season as they look to dedicate a statue to him in August. 1969 was the last full season at Crosley Field and the first of two seasons in which Perez hit 30+ HR and 100+ RBI (the other being 1970; arguably his best season).
A very subtle thing I love about this one is that if you were sitting in the stands at Crosley Field in 1970 (the last one) and you were looking at the cover of your scorecard, you'd be looking at a shot of Perez crossing home plate in 1969 after an apparent home run, being greeted by Bench and Rose. YES.
He was the "heart and soul" of the big red machine. Always delivered the key 2 out hit when they needed it most. Look what happened to the Reds after Perez was traded, following the 1976 season. Same remaining "cast of characters" but they never won again. MLB Network does various rankings off the "Top 9" of all time. I think the show is called "Prime 9" or something like that. Most of these shows air in the off-season, when programming is thin. Anyway, one of the shows focused on the top Clutch Hitters of all-time. They ranked Perez 7th... only behind the likes of Gehrig, Ruth, Musial, Williams and a couple more. IMHO, a statue is not only deserved, but overdue!
