Default Aaron collection

Chris,

My Aaron collection is nowhere as extensive as your Mick, but I have obtained several items this year so I am getting there. Sorry for the bad pic.

Not to detract this thread from the original intent but one suggestion to "display" your collection safely and securely without pulling everything out is to do high quality scans of everything and then print them in a photo book. You could get one in larger format to make one killer coffee table book to peruse through. Each page could be front and back of the card with a write up like Brian mentioned. It would take some time and work but I think it would end up pretty cool. You could use the photo in the original post as your cover shot.
Just a thought.

Holy crap!! That's the most insane pile of Mantle cards I've ever seen. Congrats on building such a great collection. Wow, I took nearly a minute to find the 1952 Topps...it would be funny if N54 did a Where's Waldo book where each page was one of our Player Collections and the "waldo" was a specific card we called out. Okay, I'm heading upstairs for a pic of my Aaron collection...

Default A small part of my Clemente collection

A few of the rarer not often seen Clemente items - Super rare 1958 Kahns, The 1962, 1967 and 1968 Venezuelans are the highest graded copies. The '67 is exquisitely rare in any grade.

There are a few pre-1980 items in this pile of stuff I photographed for a post over at FCB awhile back. That thread was about non-card stuff, so this is most of the non-card portion of my Dave Winfield collection.

It baffles me that there isn't a single Yankees bobblehead of Dave Winfield. I know he and Steinbrenner didn't get along, but it's not like they cut ties or anything.

Dan,

Really like and enjoy looking at the way you display your collection. Of course it would look much, much better if there was a Brooks Robinson section, displayed in a predominant spot (Just a suggestion...).

Each time I view your items it makes me want to organize, which is a good thing.

I do have a section for Brooks, although not much in there.

Dan--

Just a couple of thoughts. I noticed two of your fine shadow box displays were of Brooks Robinson and Warren Spahn. I have read that these two are among the most friendly and gregarious autograph guests, leaving fans extremely glad that they had taken the time and spent the money to stand in line and meet these two greats. They truly would make a fan know they were grateful for their remembering and honoring them. It would not surprise me if the occasion spawned some future collecting of these respective player's cards and memorabilia.

Unfortunately, I have also read of some former star athletes who were the antithesis of Brooks and Warren. I shall not go into details or name names, but I fear any collectors of those players were suddenly killed off, and their collections sold off.

But the names and heritage of Brooks and Warren will remain rosy long after their leaving us.

Again, those are nice player displays. It just goes to show you needn't jam-pack an area to express how much you like and appreciate an athlete you love. ---Brian Powell

PS--As most of us have read, the Mighty Babe was great with his legions of fans. I cannot remember where I read it, but I know I read where after the first game of the 1927 World Series in Pittsburgh, outside the player's entrance a group of fans had gathered to get the Babe's autograph. He asked for a stool so he could ablige his many adoring admirers. Folks, Babe sat there and signed away until long after it got dark! What kind of a memory would that leave somebody 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 years later?!?!

Dan,

If I can help you to add any memorabilia type item/s to your Brooksie area please let me know. It "needs" to be BIGGER...

Your player displays are awesome; thanks so much for displaying and showing us your fine collection.

Sorry for the delay in responding. It's an unissued 1968 Topps proof of Seaver, missing the black ink. Note that he's pitching left handed. I guess he was trying to fool the photographers but someone at Topps figured out what was going on before the card was issued. I wish I could find one with all of the ink colors on it.

You guys are funny. I should have put the 52 Topps in different places to make it a little more difficult. You have a great eye Brian. I can find the 53 Stahl Meyers but cannot find the 55 anywhere in the picture.

At some point, I would love to do an album of some kind. I keep most of my collection in a fire safe but I think an online album would be a good idea. I have a private Photo Bucket account for insurance purposes but should take the extra step to organize it and label everything. Thank you all for the kind words. I love the history behind each card and the thought of some excited fan pulling it out of the pack (and, in the case of my collection, sometimes tacking it to the wall or sticking it into the bike spokes).

I love the Aaron run. Any favorite?

The 1954 Aaron is my favorite, but for some odd reason I really like the Post/Jello cards. They tun a close second.

Love it! I had to stay away from League Leaders, Jello, etc. since my Pennzoni display only held 50 cards. But now I'm wondering if a second case is in order!

One set I don't see in your Aarons are the Nu-Card Scoops and Hi-lites from 1960 and 1961. The 1961 in particular is very inexpensive and features what Aaron would probably consider the highlight of his career.
