Just curious, if it was a real 52 Mantle in this terrible condition, how much do you think it would go for?

My guess would be in the $2500-$3000 range, but it's tough to estimate a collector value when 20% of the card is missing.

Another tell tale sign of artificial aging... notice how the card is all creased up and ripped, but the corners are overall fairly sharp. The wear is inconsistent.

The biggest flag, though, is in the image. The color and print are all wrong, as other have noticed and pointed out.

Do you think it would still go for that price range considering a chunk of it is missing? I don't doubt you Chuck, because I know you're a beast in the collecting world , but that seems like a lot...I would guess around 1-1.5k, but I'm not an expert on '52 Mantle's. That being said, the most important parts of the card are still intact, so maybe it would be closer to your guesstimate.

HAha... I'm no beast, Mike, but I appreciate the compliment.

I think you are right and I was off on the first estimate -- $2K tops with that much missing, and your 1.5K looks good.

The damage on the fake Mantle posted in the OP is so over the top. We see a lot of beaters in the hobby, many cards that are "well loved", but it seems rare to find a card ripped up like that (usually at that point the card would be tossed out, not worth saving).
