Another very cool revelation…

While continuing to painstakingly match up any and all o/c pieces of GT's that I can find, I made another discovery and have proven once and for all that checklist #98 was part of the run. Traditionally, only numbers 110-196 were listed as green tints, so this adds a new piece to the puzzle. I'm sure others have surmised that this checklist was a part of the GT set, but now I have 'officially' matched it up. In looking at hundreds of these cards, it became obvious that they feature a number of different woodgrain schematics and that's what made the search so difficult. But now I present to you checklist #98 as it appeared with Leo Posada and Gene Woodling on the printing sheet. So far, only cards featuring the specific woodgrain pattern shown can be said to be true GT versions. The checklist may have appeared in other places on the sheet(s) with different woodgrains, but I have no verifiable proof of that at the moment.

Sorry to bring this back to life but the 2nd checklist being part of the sheet makes perfect sense.

Assuming the sheet was either 132 or 264 cards it would be better to have 88 cards in a series. Cards #'s 110-196 are 87 cards so the 2nd series checklist would make 88 cards which would be correct to make an 132 card sheet with 44 cards being printed twice and 44 cards being printed once.

Obviously, if this was done on a 264-card sheet then one would reverse the 1st sheet and every card would be printed in even quantities.

And since there were changes big and small --- I'd wager there is some difference, even if subtle between the 2nd series checklist in the 1st series and the 2nd series checklist printed with the 2nd series. Love to know what the difference is.

If I remember correctly from my pack buying days as a kid.... As an example the 1962 First Series not only included the 88 cards but, also a few cards in the Second Series. Hence you could get the 2nd Series checklist to see what was coming in the next series.

The one I remember vividly was 1964. I had the complete 4th Series and cards up through 370 (Hal Woodeshick) of the 5th Series. This included the 6th Series Checklist. I had marked all of my checklists. The 6th Series never arrived in Detroit for sale. So for years my 64 set stopped at 370. I don't know if it has any bering on the sheets and how they were printed.

Later in the season Topps did not ship everywhere. There is a hobby legend based on fact that the St. Louis area did not get the 6th series in 1967 but got tons of the high numbers.

Perhaps not enough people in Detroit would order the higher series and thus they were not sent Detroit. And yes, there were regional issues such as that all during the 1960's-70's.

The brutally difficult 1972 3rd series football cards were released in Dallas and that makes sense as DFW is a football hotbed. Not many other places received those cards.

I grew up in St Louis but starting in 1963 was ordering sets from The Card Collectors Company, which delivered them by series throughout the summer. My last order from them was the 1967 set

The rows beginning with Larry Sherry and Bill Virdon are only printed once on this sheet. Now there are not as many 5th Series SP Legends as other years but I would nor be surprised if those 2 rows are Shorter Printed. I know I rarely see the Homer Kings card (#401) for sale.
