Having tried several methods over the years, I settled on what Arnie has in post 13. In the process of intentionally damaging the slab, it's important to not damage the card. This method seems least risky to the card for me.

Step one, break off top corner (I put the case in a vise and snap it). Step two slide a flathead screwdriver under break. Step 3 pry slowly and carefully, case should pop apart. I've done this numerous times with psa and sgc holders, not much with bvg.
