Default E104

Not sure if truly "rare" by board standards, but probably my toughest card...

Can't get rarer than this--only card produced, may be "prototype" and never distributed.

Being an U of Akron grad the Canton team has a little more meaning!!

Great looking stuff so far everyone. I hope to add another rare card, Spud Johnson, this year if I can find one.

Nice Detroit Seamless Steel Tubes Cobb, Dan,, but if he was 21, as the card states, it is almost certainly a 1908, not 1907. Cobb was born December 18, 1886. He would have been 20 through the entire 1907 season, and 21 through the 1908 season. I think SGC could use a little help on their math, unless the manufacturing company got their facts wrong. It would have to have been issued between December 18, 1907 and December 31, 1907 to have been a 1907 card (and therefore one of his several rookies). Quite a small window.

Not likely a rookie, but great card nonetheless,

Larry

Larry, I think that SGC based the date on this example of the card: Link, which has a 1907 postmark.

Very interesting, Gary--I would tend to agree with you that the postmark is almost certainly correct, which would mean that the issuer got Cobb's age wrong, unless it was indeed released within that very small window in December of 1886!

In any event, Dan's autographed fielding pose Dietsch and '23-'24 Exhibit Simmons are absolute wows! Each likely to be one of a kind. It wasn't easy for me to find my non-autographed examples of each of those cards (PSA 5 Fielding Pose Cobb; SGC VG Simmons--each treasures of my own collection--I can't believe I used to carry the Cobb around with me for awhile after I finally got it in 2011).

Thanks for correcting me,

Larry

PS: what in the world are you doing up at this hour? All the best!
