Thank you. I figured if I was going to add a W511 Ruth to my collection this was the way to do it.

Sure looks like him. And, I'm terrible at this, but thinking maybe Frank Smith on the left?

Interesting...Southern Pines, NC was the spring training site for the 1914 Baltimore Terrapins of the Federal League, so that could be Frank Smith wearing an old White Sox jersey before the season started.

Does the guy in the sweater look like George Gibson to anyone else besides me?

Would the Pirates have trained against a Federal League team, or would that have been considered taboo at the time?

Default So I saw this listing on the T206 B/S/T

and getting a HoFer is always a good thing. But then Jeff mentioned that it had this stamp on the back from some guy named McCormick, and I thought "Hey, wouldn't it be kind of cool to get that, and then try and get as many others like that as I can? Sort of like rebuilding this guys collection..." The $6,500 OBO price was sort of hard to swallow, but luckily, Jeff was willing to negotiate.

Thanks, Jeff.

(I'm guessing there are at least 269 cards out there with this guy McCormick's stamp on them)

It does look like Gibson. Also, the guy next to Evers looks very familiar but I can't place where I've seen him. I think I've seen a card that looks just like him.

My first reaction upon seeing that picture, before having read any of the discussion, was "Hey cool, a PC with Gibson in it." At a glance, I totally think it's him, but in general, I'm terrible at the whole face/photo/player recognition game (this extends into real life, I am very bad at remembering faces).

Anyone else see Gibson?

Richard.

Default My first t205 short print!

My Grant sp finally arrived! Sorry for the crappy scans, but my scanner doesn't do depth very well. I'm very excited about this card though, definitely trimmed but looks great and will look even better once I let him breathe!

Oh yeah, signature adjustment to follow...

Trying to track this down: Frank Smith was indeed with Baltimore in 1914, but Gibson never played in the Federal League and was still with the Pirates in 1914. Evers was with the Robins in 1914 but I can't tell who is to his left (our right). If the picture was taken following the 1913 season , when Evers was still with the Cubs, the guy to his left resembles Bresnahan. It's possible the postcard was kept for a year before using. Of course, all of this is guessing and you can throw almost all of it out with barnstorming-style play.
