Neat story....things were very interesting in this hobby in the early 1980's. Also in 1982, I was at a monthly auction run by Alan "Mr Mint" Rosen.
An ExMt 1953 Bowman Mantle card was up for bidding. Rosen started it at $45. Someone raised their hand. Then Rosen said "$46". I raised my
hand....followed by total silence. I looked around the hall and no one else was bidding on this Mantle. I was surprised, and won it for only $46.

So, that event got me started on completing this beautiful 160-card set.

Incidently, a 1952 Topps Mantle (Ex) at that auction went for $500.

Ted - I think your story of the halcyon days of bargain-bin collecting really tops mine. If only that dealer had not forgotten to bring his '52 Topps Mantle to the show, I might have bagged it for a whopping $311...rats!

$59 or $46.....not too much difference for our beautiful Mantle cards. We were fortunate to be collecting cards back in those good ole days.

My 2 teenage daughters got me back into collecting BB cards in 1977 when they were collecting 1977 Topps cards. I am certainly glad that I
got them interested in BB when they were very young.

The Paige is also one of the most faked cards out there. I have seen some fakes that look damn near perfect. If I had a raw one, I would send it in ASAP under the fastest turnaround time.

The only reason I ask, is because I am thinking of trading my complete 1952 topps set for one...
