They were authenticating signed items at National Pastime's Atlantic City show in May 1995. I had DiMaggio sign a ball, then went over to SSI's booth or table. This was the pre-hologram era, so their rep hand-wrote a code in black pen on the side of the ball in tiny printing. They also printed out a "National Sports Autograph Network Registration Certificate" (about 8-1/2 by 11) with your name and address, the code, the item, the signer, the date, and the event on it. The pre-printing on the certificate was in purple, with the above info added in black. So to this extent, they were legit.
I couldn't find anything about them on-line when I searched a couple of years ago. I too would be interested in hearing more of the story. Bob |
