That first one is cool. Achway did a bunch of special baseball covers. Some like that they could plan for, others like milestone events and no-hitters were harder for them. I always wondered how they got ones for events that ended well after PO closing time.
Apparently they had a couple people in each MLB city that had a connection at the PO, and kept at least a boxful of prestamped covers in their car. When something special happened they'd make the arrangement to go to the PO immediately and get them canceled. The cachets were added on later. They also had some connections since they seemed to have an easy time getting some of each signed. One of the books had at least a partial list of what they'd produced. Steve B |
