Randall,
In the second picture, I notice 3 things that may help.
1) Mantle appears to be wearing a hard helmet.
2) Mantle doesn't have a glove with him.
3) It appears that most of the people in the stands are sitting.

I would assume from those facts that this was him walking back to the dugout after popping out. I don't know if he was sent back out to field the next inning to get an ovation when he was removed, but it seems like it's a fairly common thing to do. I would expect that if this was his last walk to the dugout, the crowd would be standing and he would be waving back to them.

Despite that they are pretty cool images that can be linked to specific moment in time.

Hi, yeah I figured the picture was of him walking back after theat bat. But I was wondering if they sent him back out to start the inning and then took him out. That photo I have never seen.
