It would be bothersome if we knew for sure he had it graded while he was working at SGC, but it's possible he bought his Mantle already graded, or he sent it to PSA, etc. Tough to know for sure.
The one thing that struck me in the video was how Doug Allen flew out to just look at the cards, but when he arrived Mr. Carter was getting them ready so Doug could take them to be auctioned. Just a little bit saddening to see a lifelong, passionate collector letting go, realizing most likely he didn't have much time left. These things we collect are all just pieces of cardboard with men on them, and we will all come to the point where we will have to sell our collections. Still, I'm not looking forward to it. ![]() |
