I think my first non "pack from store" purchase was a box of 1978 football. I split the cost with a friend (we were 8 years old at the time!) and we sent away for it (can't remember what company we bought it through). I still remember sitting at his kitchen table when it came in the mail and taking turns picking packs to open. The two cards that I remember were that I got a Dorsett and he got a Payton. I think I still have some of the commons lying around somewhere!
