Wow, that IS cool! Usually you see those "1st pitch" shots from the vantage point of the photogs on the ground. I think that's the first overhead shot like that I've seen. Very neat, and shows just how crowded it could get with all those guys jostling for position at a key moment!

For sure.. that's what makes this cool. It puts everything into perspective. I knew it was staged but man.. this is really staged!! ha!

It also explains why the guy throwing out the ball always seems to be lobbing it way up high: They HAD to or else they'd bean Conlon or one of his cronies right in the mush!

!956, depicting the power about to be unleashed by Mickey. Herbie Scharfman catching it all, as usual. Ike in the stands watching his favorite ball player.

Always loved that shot, Craig. I'm glad to know it's in the hands of a great collector!

Craig, thank you for the timely photo of Scharfman, as I just picked up a couple of his oversized photos but hadn't yet gotten around to searching for images of him.

This is the only one I have. Pretty sure we can all identify the guy behind the camera, although it does appear to be a video camera.

Thanks Lance. What I love about this photo was that the subject of interest, and thus the most in focus, was Ike in the stands. The resulting soft focus of Mickey results in an ethereal image, which if you stare at it long enough begins to complete that magnificent swing.
