that is a bummer Brock, I feel for you....The funny thing is that if you take the first 2 facts of your post..."Craigslist" & "Florida" THAT WAS A TELL TALE sign that it was probably a scam.
 Much like Auction ZIP "where nothing is real, ZIP". You are obviously the type of collector that takes a leap a faith and is searching for the holy grail on the CHEAP, so these things happen. It was 2008, so you get a free pass.  Stick to Auction ZIP, where collectors get Hammered daily, but according to you " they have real autographs there"...needle in a Haystacks Calhoun boy.
