I hate to be the one to say it, but if you were careless (might be a bit harsh) enough to send unsecured funds, over state lines, with no receipt, to a complete stranger... then you kind-of had this one coming.

at least it was "only" a $600 mistake...you live and learn.

I think you should take him to the grammar police to begin and go from there. Do you still have his phone #? Find out where this guy lives now and that might help answer some questions. You could also ask the guy who he sold the Dimaggio bat to and have him describe any details about his appearance and see if it is the same guy.

I called the old phone number but no answer. They did call back and I asked if Ron was there. They said there is no ron, so I asked how long have they had the number and they said 2 years.

I sent the Facebook link to the collector who bought the item. But they couldn't be 100%. All they remember was the guy was scruffy.

The guy on Facebook currently lives acouple hours from Daytona beach. But the city that's listed on the dating site ain't far from his current city. And then the background records show the guys town listed on the dating site is one or the older cities in the background check of ron **** in Daytona beach. I'm pretty sure it's him but background/people searches are messy info.

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

I am not an attorney, so please do not construe this as legal advice. But in my opinion, Brock, you need to let this go. No possible good will come from it.

This person may very well be the one that stole $600 from you. I completely empathize with you. I get, too, that at this point it's more about the principle. But you need to proceed with extreme caution here. If you make disparaging comments about this person, you could be accused of libel, and a defamation suit could be brought against you, even across state lines. Everything you say might be the truth, but in a court of law, what matters is what you can prove. You don't have iron clad proof to support your allegations of theft, so as hard as it might be, you should chalk this up to experience, and move on.

that is a bummer Brock, I feel for you....The funny thing is that if you take the first 2 facts of your post..."Craigslist" & "Florida" THAT WAS A TELL TALE sign that it was probably a scam. Much like Auction ZIP "where nothing is real, ZIP".

You are obviously the type of collector that takes a leap a faith and is searching for the holy grail on the CHEAP, so these things happen. It was 2008, so you get a free pass.

Stick to Auction ZIP, where collectors get Hammered daily, but according to you " they have real autographs there"...needle in a Haystacks Calhoun boy.

Fudd
You don't realize there's more then just autographs. Maybe if you actually went on and spent more than 1 minute you'd actually see, instead all you do is complain.

I'm not the one complaining about getting scammed 6 years ago knuckles

I would not buy a Kewpie doll from Auction ZIP, "where nothing is real, ZIP".

I would not buy from craigslist or Auction ZIP...because THEY ARE FULL of scammers. If you want to navigate through shark invested waters, this is what you get. This scam you fell for was well deserved and you still haven't learned your lesson. It sucks you are out 600 beans however. Stay away from Craigslist and Auction ZIP Brock
