What's the purpose in blackening out the certification number??? (Seriously, I don't know the answer...Don't make fun of me (too much)......)

I would assume so that the flip isn't easily duplicated for scam artists...it's somewhat of a common practice for higher priced items...not for everyone, but I see it here and there.
