Hindsight is 20/20 vision, but it would have been best to not mention the JSA LOA up front.

It may color perceptions one way or another. Certainly there are some individuals who will relish the opportunity to dump on something only because it has a JSA cert.

I do not know Ruth enough to offer an opinion. But in my view, the JSA LOA should be weighed with a high degree of credibility. Then gather the opinions of other collectors/dealers you trust to "put it to bed" in your mind.

In other words, don't let the contrary voice of one person ruin it for you. There will always be "that one person" with just about any autograph.

In full disclosure, I am the space consultant for JSA.

The autograph appears authentic to me. With the JSA plus the opinions of most board members here as to its authenticity, I wouldn't fret too much. There's no way of ever knowing with 100% certainty that any autograph is legitimate unless it was personally witnessed by you. Having said that, I'm rather confident you have a beautiful Ruth on your hands.

I don't know who this person is making suggestions based on watermarks, but you might want to tell them that paper manufacturers and book makers have been using watermarks since the 13th century. The watermark process was standardized for mass production by the mid 19th century and was refined for the express purpose of paper manufacturers marking their paper.

Such situations are opportunities for JSA to improve their credibility. Once that's done, such opportunities will be meaningless.

Uh oh, you likely just opened up a Pandora's box of ill will amongst some by making it look like you are comfortable since PSA/DNA gave it a likely thumbs up via their quick opinion, while not appearing comfortable when other board members were chiming in.

You are likely to be called names, told to never ask for an opinion again, be banished to Siberia, be poked in the eye with a sharp object, have a piece of meat strapped to your back while being put into a cage of 134 starving hounds on the Korean peninsula or any other like event.

In all seriousness, I'm happy you are happy with your purchase. If it's authentic, it's a beautiful autograph and definitely one to be proud of!

lol..damn I wouldve been fine if it was only 133 starving hounds but 134 I wouldnt make it. Lol...thanks though bro. Its a awesome auto and I feel alot better about it. The psa quick opinion had very little to do with why I feel its authentic. It was all of you and a couple that I talked to personally that really played a huge part. You guys are pretty damn awesome

Talking I suspect . . .

.

. . . the sense of comfort may have little to do with the PSA/DNA quick opinion but most likely from the various opinions of Net54 members, inclusive of several with extensive experience (that excludes me). I know that I personally value the varied opinions of members, and less so the ABC third party opinions. There is an educational element to this forum that is priceless. The varying character of the contributing "teachers" makes it entertaining to boot.

Just received the ruth auto and its better than I expected. Some interesting things I found on it that werent mentioned earlier. There is a date in the lower right corner written in pencil that says 4/2/47 and on the back there is a old newspaper article clipping that has to do with babe and the ford motor company. Found that very interesting, Very happy with it!

Uh oh. My next door neighbor has a 2013 Ford. You'd better check to make sure that clipping isn't a modern fake.

I fear the authentic Ruth autograph was just a rouse to sell you a forged newspaper clipping.

Congratulations on your purchase! I still remember when I purchased mine, I was like a little kid on cloud nine for the next couple of weeks.
