Bruce Dickinson~Iron Maiden Rob Halford~ Judas Priest, Fight, Halford Ronnie James Dio(RIP)~ Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio Ozzy Osbourne~ Black Sabbath, Ozzy ( from first Sabbath album through "Bark At The Moon") I'm tired but off the top of my head these four stand out in the "classic Metal" category. Led Zeppelin!
Too young to have seen them in concert. However, I saw Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (Page/Plant) twice, Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes, Robert Plant solo and John Paul Jones. I got to meet John Paul Jones after a show he did in Virginia while promoting one of his solo albums. Great guy, friendly and easy to talk to. Got his auto on the cover of Led Zeppelin II and his guitar pick.

"I'll be honest with you, I love his music, I do, I'm a Michael Bolton fan. For my money, I don't know if it gets any better than when he sings "When a Man Loves a Woman".
Seriously, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Rush, Dave Matthews Band, Bob Seger, Bruce, Elvis Costello, Foo Fighters, Warren Zevon, Susan Tedeschi, Jamie Cullum, Stones, Hendrix, Doors, Pearl Jam.

Also going to show my age here have always been into all kinds of music except "dance" music, probably because I have three left feet. Seriously, I don't even try it's just too embarrassing...
If I had to just pick one, probably the Eagles. Live, the Who were frickin' amazing. They were so loud your body became part of the music. Really hard to describe unless you were there. Also you had four guys at the time that were all in anyone's "Top Five" for talent. Was fortunate that I got to see Freddie Mercury (Queen) perform live a couple of times. One may have issues with his lifestyle but my, oh my, the guy was born to perform and gave his all every night. I've never seen any other act or frontman who could work a stadium crowd as he could. Now that I've become a grumpy old man, I find myself listening to quieter, introspective music, mostly what would be described as "folk" if you have to name a category. Hard for me to pick as I am a music lover and like a little from all genres. I hear a lot of different stuff as I collect records/albums (over 2000 now). anyway, my list is long but here are some favorites from all genres------
Billy Ward and The Dominoes, Buddy Holly, Clyde McPhatter and The Drifters, The Beatles, Elvis, Cash, The Orioles, Sarah Vaughn, early Kinks, early The Who, Pink Floyd, early The Hollies, Gid Tanner and The Skillet Lickers, Hendrix, Joplin (Big Brother and solo), Gordon Lightfoot, Croce.....you get the picture.....then the 80s Hair Rock and 80s music...love it BUT....... I'm a HUGE heavy metal/thrash metal/black metal fan.....been to over 80 concerts....maybe y'all have heard of some of these----Slayer, Metallica (1983-1988), Megadeth, Exodus, DRI, Pantera, Sepultura (Cavalera era), ProPain, Suicidal Tendencies, Forbidden, Agnostic Front, Earth Crisis, Vision of Disorder, Obituary, Napalm Death, Death, Tool, Helmet, Ministry, Body Count, System of a Down, Korn, Iron Maiden, Testament, Grave, Overkill, Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse (prefer the Chris Barnes era), Unleashed, Enslaved, Cradle of Filth, etc,etc.....( Ive seen all the above bands except for Death and Cradle of Filth).....then the best-----DIMMU BORGIR!!!!! ....\m/ |

For those who mentioned Jaco Pastorius, I just saw some cool news plus a basketball card-related sighting.
Robert Trujillo, bassist for Metallica, is currently working on a documentary based on the life and death of Jaco. One of the graphical banners on the website has some Jaco cards, and they're based on designs from '70s Topps basketball cards. Pretty cool... ![]() Last edited by CW; 03-02-2014 at 02:49 PM. |

Lived in Buffalo 32 years. Saw 1000's of concerts. Saw bands before they were big. Rush played countless times at the gym at UB. LOL
Greatest concert ever. Pink Floyd DSOTM June, 1973 Comfortably Numb with Van Morrison in Berlin. Awesome Wishbone Ash Argus. Turner brothers dueling guitars Zepplin with Page and Plant August 1973 Really Floyd and Zepplin a month apart? Yup Tickets were a whopping $6.50 for each concert. ![]() |

I always prefer female singers. The last several years, I have really enjoyed Eva Cassidy, who died far too early.
I got through heavy traffic coming home from a long road trip today listening to her Greatest Hits...wonderful! Once I had heard all the sound twice, I slid in 'Prisoner in Disguise' by Linda Ronstadt, my all-time favorite. I had not heard it in a while and forgot what wonderful 'pips' she had. Unfortunately, she now has Parkinson's and can no longer sing. I intend to send her a letter of appreciation for how much her gift has enriched my life. I wish I had been able to do the same for Eva Cassidy. Even though our favorite singers have millions of fans, and they probably won't get to read our letters personally, I feel we owe them a minute of our time to show some appreciation. It might even brighten up one of their days- who knows...
