Default 3 newbies

Just got around to scanning these.
1. The Duffy from ebay. Sorely undergraded due to a speck of paper loss on the back and a small scuff by the sock. For what I paid, I'll take it!
2. The Nee from Joe's Vintage Auction last week. Paid on Wed., received on Sat. No buyers premium & $3 for postage. Now THAT'S how to run an auction! Also way undergraded IMO, again a tiny nick in the back. About as nice a centering for a minor leaguer as I've seen.
3. The Mitchell from David B Vintage. Just a pencil mark on the back for the low grade (no creases, nice corners). Just wanted a Zeenut type card. Cool old car in the background and a full front jersey view.

Default (wonder if it still runs)

Nice pickup on the Zeenut Mitchell...it is a cool, inexpensive alternative to the Waner Zeenut card that has the old Ford in the background.

Cheers,

John

Great pick ups on the OJ Griffith & Welch. Those are very strong images for typically very weak exposures.

I was thinking the same thing. Griffith typically comes light, so it's tough to find one with such a strong photo.

That's the nicest Griffith I've ever seen! Probably nine out of ten Griffiths have faded images, and the tenth would usually be just acceptable... What an amazing card, I don't think we'll see another like it.

Great AB scan! Is there a significance of all of those players together or am I just missing something?

Thanks Mike, no significance really, just digging ABs lately. I picked them as most are the second known example/would be highest graded.

I know I sound like a broken record, but that Griffith is amazing, what a nice example of a tougher HOFer. You have a nice start on an N172 HOF run.

3 much needed upgrades all in 1 trade! Thanks Pete!
The Rhoades Cycle is part of my Cleveland team set (25 cards with 21 different backs). Upgrading the Rhoades has been on my hit list for quite some time.
Also a nice '37 4-in-1 Feller RC blue tint. Been looking for one for quite some time!

I have never seen that T205 John Nee before. How did a random player get such a beautiful card?! The background on it is stunning.

The Zeenut from David B Vintage (ebay), the Joss from John (myachelydra) here. Love the photo on the Colgan's, what an awesome set, wish I could afford more of them!

Coigans have great portrait photos (mostly Horner) and are a great value in our space, imo. Nice pick up...

Default the Babe

99.9% sure this is my last pick up of the year. Happy with it, though am hoping not to fully open a new can of worms with Exhibits/Premiums/PCs (that could be endless)... have enjoyed dabbling and expanding my interests a bit this year.

Picked up this neat woodcut from the 1876 Canadian Illustrated News. It shows a team portrait of the Tecumseh baseball club with nice write-up on the back. Looks like they defeated many of the American baseball clubs of the time with the exception of the Chicago White Stockings who beat them 16-6.

Default OJ Griffith

I'm late to the party, but that Griffith OJ is stunning!! Nice pick-up John. I didn't see that one in the original goldinauctions Cambridge Collection listing, but certainly Jay got a few gems in that lot!!

If you ever want to sell...

My final two 2013 pick ups. The Ellis was from the Sterling Sports Auction, and the Oakes from a fellow board member.
