My wife and I got back from a week long trip to the Clearwater, Fl area and took a side trip to purchase a pretty large collection of bats, gloves, uniforms and photos. Spent our 25th anniversary day doing it. 95% of the bats are 1940's and earlier. Mike

Default 1915 World Series Scorebook with the "Babe"

Just added this guy to my scorebook collection. It contains all of the 1915 World Series games between the Red Sox and Phillies. Most importantly it has 20 year old Babe Ruth's first World Series appearance. The Red Sox were pretty loaded that year, winning the World Series 4 games to 1, so Ruth only had one appearance in the Series - batting as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of game one in the Sox only loss. The Phillies won this game 3-1 with Grover Cleveland Alexander out dueling Ernie Shore.

This scorebook was likely either kept by a Philadelphia reporter or a team official. In addition to the scorekeeping, there are notes regarding the attendance as well as the gate receipts. It also has several of the Phillies pre-season games from Florida prior to the 1917 season.

I have been looking for one of these for a while. I see them up on ebay about 1 per year, but always seem to either forget or just miss out pulling the trigger.

1933 Black's Annual

As an avid Red Sox collector, I find this to be an awesome item. Most likely it was someone that worked for the Phillies. Where did you find it?

Hey John,

I picked it up from another collector who previously had it for a decade or two.

Yes Mike, that could be one of the biggest and best hauls we've ever had here on a pickup thread!

Default Vandy pickup

I recently picked up this 1939 vintage Johnny Vander Meer Black's Annual.
These have to be fairly scarce because I've never come across one of them.

Just picked this up. It's from a photo album that contained a team photo that had been cut to make a photo collage. I believe this is the 1934 Cleveland Red Sox of the Negro National League.

I don't remember the rules about this sort of thing showing an auction before it is over but this is a nice looking item

good luck to the winning bidder

There are no rules.

Potential buyers, who have already seen the auction, hate it.

Potential buyers, who would have missed the auction, love it.

Sellers love it.

Scott,
You obviously didn't do anything wrong, but I wanted to let you know before you paid the invoice, and then had to go through an ordeal to get a refund. The auction house really should have had a test run with liveauctioneers before selling such an expensive sports collection. Mark, here is a link to the auction:
