Greetings everyone, I was wondering why the 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams card is so high priced. I know it is Ted Williams but comparing the price on this card to his 1954 Topps and even the Bowman this one is the highest priced. Can any Wilson experts on the forum explain it? Look for to some info on this.
Thank You, Richard |

It is a beautiful card, in high demand, andrelative to Topps and bowman Williams cards it is quite tough.

I agree, it is the most beautiful of all the splinters cards. Dave.

Aesthetics are there, image-wise. And it was packed with hot dogs, hence some serious condition issues. Also, overall, not many to begin with relative to alternatives. It is also a challenging and rewarding set to build. I guess all that combines to make for a pricey card.
I myself have been searching for a 5 for some time now. Many have slanted top cuts to them, and finding one that is squared-up can be quite tough. |

Matty C, I found a PSA 5 for you. Very pricey but nice.

Love it. Beautiful example. Alas 6k is just too rich for me on that one.

I always assumed one of the reasons for its popularity is because Ted appears to be fouling off a package of franks.

As others have mentioned, scarcity in relation to condition and the eye appeal of this card has driven up the value of this card. I will never be able to afford a card such as this but I consider it one of the best, if not THE best Teddy Ballgame card.

Wilson Franks are relatively scarce to begin with, but to make things tougher the borders are very narrow resulting in a lot of badly off center cards. Add in the staining and it makes for a tough and expensive card.

Damn! 3 hrs. 1 min. from post to purchase. You move fast! Great looking card, if you don't mind me asking, what was the purchase price? Don't answer if it makes you uncomfortable, just morbid curiosity.
Congrats on a major addition to your collection.

Nothing to contribute other than I sold a PSA 4 Wilsons Williams @ National for $2900... Relatively easy sale. (Thanks Matt C!)

You're welcome, Sean! Figured that would be an easy one.
Richard, Congrats on adding such a major card to your collection. That is a very bright example. Quick work, too! Best, Matt |
