Here is Mastro's Description of it, from their 2008 Auction...
Viewed predominantly in sepia-toned photographs taken more than a century ago, baseball's bib-style uniforms seldom come to life as does the offered garment! This deep-blue pullover jersey features long sleeves and, secured by ten vintage buttons, a bib on which "HVF Co" is sewn in cream-colored cloth characters. Within the 2-1/4"-wide collar (which, like the bib, is lined with cream-colored trim), a "D. KLEIN & BRO. - PHILADELPHIA" manufacturer's label has handwritten notations of the owner and team names. All original and unaltered, this gorgeous example is further highlighted by its vented tails and trim-and-button design near each sleeve ending. That was their take on it, FWIW... they have sold other examples as Fireman Jerseys, if you check their archives. |

Great looking jersey! It is a beautiful piece, but I also have some questions as to if it is a fireman's jersey. Looked up "HVF Co Baseball" & "HV Fire Company" and Huntingdon Valley Fire Company #1 came up first on google search. Near Philadelphia. Don't know how Mastro reached their conclusion, or what provenance they have to back-up their claim it is a baseball jersey. Oh well, still a great jersey!

That could well be it then... especially with the Philadelphia connection. Still a nice exemplar of the period. Thanks for finding that info!

Beautiful jersey Mark. The description mentions a name and team hand written on the manufacturers label - can you make that out?

Thanks Keith...
Here's the Tag. I can't make out the Name on the top line, but below that is "Brummer". Not sure what this refers to, but I suppose Mastro interpreted it to be the Team's name. |

Looks like "W Nyce" and "Brunner" to me. Still don't know what it refers to though.
