Haha, this is the part that has always bothered me about the movie. It would have made sense for it to be a 1933, but in reality it was a 1974 (possibly 73, I forget) topps Gehrig card. It never made sense that a guy that died in the 30s had a 70s baseball card. Every time I have seen that part of the movie, even as a child, I got annoyed with that scene.
