Great signed Diamond Stars. Terrific way to get well within the possible set...

Great D304! Love that image; one of my favorite cards of all time. Pretty low pop, too, for a HOFer of that stature.
This is on the way. Can't believe I was able to score one in any condition. From The Streak to Marilyn, Joe D will forever be ingrained in American popular culture. I have always thought this card way undervalued, and "on deck" to grow (with some other HOFers) once the massive run on Ruth cards peaks. Last edited by MattyC; 07-16-2013 at 09:06 AM. |

Great pickup on the DiMaggio. What a beautiful example! I agree with you that it is a seriously undervalued card..he's one of the few truly iconic players.
Why does the card only have a 2 grade? Is there back damage? The front looks amazing for the grade- m |

Thanks. Yes, some damage on back; I just love it when you can find an old card with a great front and the eye appeal of a much higher-grade card, and it's low grade (and affordable) because of the back.
To think the same quality image with no back damage would cost insane $$$$, it makes lower grade cards with no front damage like treasure finds to me. Joltin' Joe has only 8 more career Ks than HR, which is staggering; he K'd only 13 times during his MVP season in 1941! It really amazes me how when you look at career stats, especially percentage stats and not counting stats, how elite Gehrig and Joe D were. Couple those numbers with their records (Joe's "56" still standing), then factor in their cultural significance (Gehrig's speech, Joe's marriage to Monroe) and I can only see the hobby one day recognizing all that, in terms of their cards rising in value. It is also shocking that only relatively lately do we see the greatest player and biggest name of all-- Ruth-- achieving huge card values (namely the performance of the Balt News and the RC). Sometimes I just surf around baseball-reference.com and my jaw never ceases to drop seeing how many categories Ruth tops. Last edited by MattyC; 07-17-2013 at 06:50 PM. |
