Toby & Bruce, nice pick-ups!
Many thanks to John D. (& Matt H.) for allowing me to obtain a nice copy of Gaffney. The Kelly was a pick-up from long ago and will have to do until a nicer image surfaces. "Honest John" Gaffney & "Honest John" Kelly were acting as managers in 1887 but both considered to be amongst the best umpires of their time. They were both asked to umpire the 1887 World Championship between Detroit and St. Louis; Gaffney being from the NL, Kelly from the AA. The two umpire system was first tried the year before during the Championship series between Chicago and St. Louis and was deemed a success (one behind the plate, the other behind second base). They both did well throughout the 15 game Championship and received consistent praise by both teams and the press. When Detroit won the Dauvray Cup and associated pins, Gaffney himself would be a recipient.

Thank you Toby, a fabulous Conway. The back is butchered, but it looks awesome where it counts.
