I'm missing something. What is special about this card that a common card that should go for $20 is selling for $250+. Is Hofman that rare or do people value the printing error of missing red ink?

Andy:
If a T206 (or T205) is legitimately missing ink from a factory mistake, it carries that much, and more, value --- especially in the present market. As Chris pointed out, and z28jd supported, it appears as though this is faded example. My guess is that they were in a frame that was not shielded from periodic sunlight. This Hofman may be getting returned, though I can't see how this is the seller's fault...

Andy,
I fell for the same trick of claimed missing ink before guys like Chris, Erick and Johnny wisened me up. Before the guys mentioned it to me, I was buying them like hotcakes! Now when somebody sells a card that is missing ink, I always ask for a scan of the reverse and if the reverse is not clean of glue substance and missing paper because of glue, it probably is not truly missing a color pass. Below is what appears Chappie Charles missing the red pass BUT the glue interacted with the paper in time and red is gone. |

...and here is the same card of Chappie Charles which IS missing the red color pass. Notice the clean reverse.
I purchased this card from my buddy, Chris Brown. |

...and then again, we have the issue of too much red ink as is with this Beckley.

This is great info. Thanks everyone for educating me. Who knew there could be so many different ways to collect vintage cards.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but I have a question about missing red ink for other issues (for example the E92 posted below). Why don't these carry the same premium as a T206? I know T206 are more collected and that may drive the price, but they're also more available, unlike the E92.
