That's an insane price for a '52T with such an abundant availabilty. But, It is iconic and has been for a long, long time and I love it. If I were to own 3 cards over $100k each, this would probably be one of them. Wags, Ruth and Mick. The E107 Matty and Wags might edge it out though.
For what it's worth - the '52T Mantle belongs on every baseball thread. It transcends any era, much like the Wags.

I feel the same way it is a VERY important card and should be allowed in any topic and category....he represents all that is baseball to my parents generation and to my own!!! He his the 1st reason I started to love the game and still is # 1 for me. I remember when my dad was alive he use to talk about the Mick with such pride in his eyes and my uncles to!!! IMO the buyer of this card paid too much for it.

I think if he keeps for a few years he will find the right buyer or most likely buyers for it and turn a good profit. Top end 52 Topps Mantle have always done well and gone up in value over time. There only 3 PSA 10'S and 7 PSA 9'S and 2 PSA 8.5's so he will do well. I am also a firm believer that a PSA 10 would command over 1$ million dollars at auction if one where to hit the market. Yep, lots of craziness last night. I nearly scratched a new bald spot between 3:00 and 4:00
Even nuttier was the Gehrig/Ruth ball, and those two single-signed Wagner balls. Lots of late action

I was sleeping like a baby by then with no bids to speak of. Sometimes I think the best view of this hobby is from the cheap seats.
