I have French Louisiana relatives who would say that it is pronounced goo-'DAY, but I'm not about to walk up to a dealer table in TX and pronounce it like that. The price would go up 4 fold. In TX they call them Gowdys like Howdy.

I was yelled at by this 900 year-old guy at the National three years ago in Baltimore for saying Christy MATTHEW-son. "Everyone knows it's Christy MATH-E-SON young man".
