I am new to this forum, but wanted to leave my opinion.
I would say focus on the glove in the center of the picture, for dating purposes. The bat is too rough to tell anything, but the glove could get you in a dated range. Once the range is found, you could start narrowing it down and researching other photographs. |

i got the pictures in yesterday and the picture of the boy by the chairs is dated 1894 and it is of Fred E. Hill. That name is the same name on the back of the pictures for the guy stated above.. one of the pictures says it is from Pottsville, PA.

There was a team called the Pottsville Colts in 1894. I wonder if any of those young lads in that photo played for the colts as they became of age?
I do see a roster with bio's for the 1894 Colts. Last edited by Craig M; 05-09-2013 at 09:38 AM. |

i looked at the roster and i wonder what Oscar Hill looked like.. these pictures all seem to be from the Hill family. The picture of Fred standing next to the chair makes him look about 7 or so.. does that look right to any of you? if that is in the right ballpark then he would have been born around 1886 or so,

I saw Oscar Hill on the roster and thought the same but see that he was born in 1871.

Yep, guy in back center with vest appears to be the same guy in the front 3 photos. Everything points to the dates Leon and David suggested. I also agree that it's probably a family outing, and unless you find a future superstar in that photo, it's $10-25 if you are very lucky.
