I will buy the 51 Bowman for sure one day probably in PSA 7. But tome some this is his Topps Rookie card since Topps started in 52. That is why I say rookie card.

What card are you referring to with the water mark? I have the Mantle in my hand and all looks good there is a mark on the Mike Mitchell error card from the E90-1 Caramel set.

He meant that he auction picture had a watermark (A mark to prevent people from stealing the picture), not te card itself.

I would love to see your collection. Do you have a camera phone by chance?

Adrian, I gotta say congrats, man. Boy, you are aggressive! I haven't seen anything like it. But you bought popular cards that will probably increase in value. Personally, I can't say about the prices, I honestly don't know much about Mantle prices or anything outside of the 19th Century stuff. But you've got to be happy with cards. The Harry Wright, yes it is faded, but it is still Harry Wright, and a PSA 5. Can't be too bad. So I send you congratulations, and as long as you're enjoying yourself and the hobby, then rave on!!!

Thanks sir means a lot!!! Yes I am having a lot of fun I quite collecting coins (To many bad people and to many other bad things in that hobby) and now only focusing of rarer cards....sold off my last coin the other day and that allowed me to pick up all these cards and a few others in the future.

Yes the Old Judge card I am very happy to own he was a pioneer of baseball (Uniforms and Stats).

Why are you saying you have the Mantle in hand when you haven't paid for it yet? Is it a different card than the PSA 4, 1952 in the link?

Did I miss something?

As Bestdj777 indicated, the (artifical) watermark is on the image only, and not on the card itself.

Edited to add: Should go without saying; however, not my card.

Might just be me, but I think Eric and some others have doubts on whether you really won these cards, which is why they want to see pictures.

I think that is why Leon knows it wasn't paid for yet and knows that you can't have the card yet as you claimed. (Purely speculation by the posts)

I only pay what I think is right for a card based on the look of the card no the holder...I wiser than that learned from been a sucker in the card trade before cards where graded by companies.

Is it not a team variation error card that is what I believed? I purchased the card because I knew it was rare and I collect rarer cards I supposed it was a card like the T206 Ray Demmitt and Bill O'Hara I must be wrong.
To be honest I never even heard of this card before a few weeks ago.

Pretty much had a few bad experiences with coin dealers in the past. And that really sucked BIG time!!! Trying to stay away and prevent it from happening again. I do not know much about the dealers I purchased from so I decided to protect myself. I personally think that is understandable....and then again maybe you do not....but I do!!!

2500$ was a bad buy in your opinion? No no race just a few rarer cards I wanted to add to my set. I know it is considered the Honus Wagner of Caramel cards but do not know why?? Can you explain? I figured they must not come up for sale often so why not buy it.

I think Mark and others (including myself) are somewhat concerned about the prices that you are paying. Some of the sellers you are buying from including bmw have some of the most overpriced BINs on ebay. There are many collectors in the hobby who enthusiastically purchase cards at high prices when they first enter the hobby, but later become discouraged and unhappy when they are later unable to re-sell the cards for their purchase price when they need to unload them. The fear is that you are walking down the same path, which we hope doesn't happen.

Please tell what cards I overpaid for (My guess is all of them)...cards are selling for a lot more than say a few years ago especially the old stuff in nice condition. I could have found a Mantle say for 10k and not 13k but the centering would have sucked or some stain would have bothered me I wanted my Mantle centered and with ZERO stains or marks of ANY kind.

Please point me in the direction of where I can find these rarer cards (That are problem free for the most part) for so much less elsewhere and I will GLADLY go in that direction in the future. Where can I find a 1887 Old Judge Harry Wright graded PSA 5 elsewhere...there are simply none available (to rare to wait 5 years to locate another one...I am a collector and hence collect I can't stand waiting 5 years for a golden deal...that would never amount to much if I waited 5 years per card I add to my collection...in the end I would have like 6-8 cards then time for me to leave Earth)?

I understand what you guys are saying be patient but some of these cards only come up every other year that is to long in my opinion to not be collecting....just to save say a 100$ on a card.

Almost NO hobby is rewarding financially NONE!!!

Just as every generation throws a hero up the pop charts, every generation has a collector who rushes in gobbling up cards without regard to price. Anyone remember Charles Nisenbau? Rocketslover? etc. etc. If you're that well off that a few thousand here a few thousand there is immaterial, then go for it and enjoy, but if you are concerned about making wise expenditures, slow down, take a deep breath, do some research, and learn to negotiate. Good luck.

For what it's worth, I've dealt with tonyetrade before and did not find him to be overpriced.

It is true that collectors will often happily pay a premium for the specific example that appeals to their eye. Whether one is a stickler for centering, registration, corners, etc., we all know that not all cards with the same label command the same price.

The PSA 4 pictured is a very clean image of Mantle. That said, you can definitely improve on that centering, if centering is your thing. This is only a 3 but the eye appeal is pretty strong...

I did negotiate on these cards most of them the dealer dropped a lot from the asking prices. For example the 1887 Old Judge was listed for 5500$ I got it for 4250$ and the Mike Mitchell was at 5000$ I believe and I got it for 2500$...I know the dealers price there stuff way high to make us think we are getting a great deal but at least I got a deal and did not pay full asking prices.

You see that Mantle in a 3 does nothing for me (creased at the bottom...colors not vibrant (+ browning) as they should be on this blue beauty and the centering to me is not appealing)...beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. I would not buy that card but that is me....I am sorry to say so but that is the truth in my situation.

Obviously, these are older listings, but the E90-1 card that you just bought sold for ~1300 in 2009 here: Link. (You may need to register with Heritage auctions to see the price.) A better condition card in SGC3 sold for ~1500 in 2010 here: Link.

The Harry Wright is a great card in PSA5, BUT, Old Judge collectors rarely go by the grade assigned by the third party graders. The reason is for Old Judges image quality is much more important that characteristics such as corner sharpness since Old Judge cards are like photos. Therefore, since the card that you purchased is faded, it may be PSA5 in technical terms, but Old Judge collectors would consider it "overgraded."

Anyway, I don't want to throw water on your purchases especially since you seem like such an enthusiastic new collector. People on the board want to see you happy with your purchases, and you certainly are happy now. We just don't want you to regret it later on, which almost always happens with new collectors. This was the same with me also. When I first re-entered the hobby, I bought a lot of things for prices where now, given what I know, I consider myself an idiot back then.

In pre-war collecting, there are many extremely rare cards. There are many, many cards that are very sought after. That is why there is rarely a deal that needs to be made now. You might miss this awesome Harry Wright card now, but later on, you may find another awesome Old Judge card that is equally rare and sought after. There are so different images and cards in prewar, collectors change focus one after the other because there are too many things to collect. We see pickups that other collectors get, and we start to want to get into that area also. Therefore, there will always be plenty of ways to spend your hard earned money on cards that you will be happy to have in your collection. Happy collecting!

No worries, all good. Wasn't trying to sell it to ya. Just making a centering comparison, as the 4 seemed pretty OC t/b, and rather its strength seems to me the cleanliness of the image and strong surface. But again it's all in the buyer's eye.

I know that there is an Ignore List for posts, but is there any way to not see entire threads started by a specific user?

Do you want us to talk about you (do you require a little bit of attention at the moment) if that is the case create a post...and people will participate if they chose to and simply ignore it if they chose not to!!!

Let's take a look at some of "Adrian's" qualities and see if we can figure out who this really is:
- single, no kids
- likes to impress us with his high end cards and how much money he spends
- never shows scans of his cards (claims to not have a scanner)
- poor use of grammar and spelling but claims to have a high level of education
- seems to enjoy annoying us
- gets belligerent when challenged
- has a brother who also buys high end cards

Hey, are you really just one of the Bruces?

I think Adrian has to be the most enthusiastic collector I've ever across.

Anyhow - kudos to you on your purchases.

I've dealt with tonyEtrade before, and found him to be more than reasonable on his pricing.

To be honest that is pathetic on your part I am never one to show off I simply buy rarer more expensive cards hence I show those cards off and for having bad grammar my 1st language is French NOT English. Try speaking French here so we can laugh at you for not been a French person...NOW that would make a whole lot of sens and would make us French people feel so much better about our selves. What are you a perfect judge are you a lawyer with 10 years of experience to judge someone in 5 minutes.

So you start threads just so people will talk about you? Dave, you can add "low self esteem" to your list.

You be a shit disturber (even worse you can't even start your own topic)...us real collectors hate those types. You can add that to YOUR list!!!
