Thank you Gary & Brad for keeping this thread alive. I love seeing the scans of the different backs. I've been following this set as I'm very interested in the '27 York Caramel and all of the Ice Cream sets from 1928. I just picked this Ruth "Three Bagger" up in the Heritage auction. I don't know that I've seen any other Ruth 3-bagger's before, so I was happy to grab this.

BTW - I love the Gehrig's and Grove's posted on the thread. I really get a kick out of learning new information about old sets.

The artwork from the "York" sets of the era seems to have gotten around. Has anyone ever researched whether the artwork was developed by a printer then licensed [like the Mendelsohn cards M101-whatevers] or whether it was developed by a product maker then cross-licensed to other manufacturers [like Topps did with Burger King]? That would be very interesting to find out. I tend to think the former just because the York boxing issue [E211] found its way to Venezuela in the 1930s where it was used on ciggie cards:

Hi

I have a complete set of W502 cards. ALL have the

ONE BAGGER Hold What You Got

back with the exception of # 57 Carl Mays, which has the

HOME RUN Return to Storekeeper and Exchange for A Base Ball
back.

Hope this helps
