Guys---the booklets were included in both 70 and 71...and you need both to be complete
![]() ![]() By the way, if you were unaware of the fact there were 70 and 71 booklets...the differences are subtle...you may have a mixed set Last edited by ALR-bishop; 04-02-2013 at 07:10 AM. |

OMG! You mean I have to buy more? I know I should not ask this question for where it may lead me but...
How can you tell the difference between the 70 & 71 versions? |

My mistake Bill. The booklets were strictly a 1970 product I was thinking of the 70 and 71 Scratch Off inserts. For those, the 70s have white, unfolded centers and the 7s red

The 95 Topps traded was issued in wax box form as I bought a few boxes in '95.

What do you mean by "unfolded" for the 1970 Scratch-offs? I know the 70's have the white back and the 71's are all red, but all my 70's are folded in half. Just seeing if I'm missing something here. Thanks a lot, AndyH

Hi Al,
Not trying to be a pain but I still need to clarify this further. And I know that you know your stuff when it comes to these cards. That said, are you just saying that the 70's are white when they're opened and the 71's are red when opened? Again, sorry for being a pain here but want to sure I know what you mean. Thanks a lot! AndyH

I love these conversations. I liked the Traded cards that came in the 1974 packs. I was 13 years old. Laughed at the airbrushing of the hats. Not thrilled about the 132 card "Traded" or "Update" that came out in the 1980's. But I bought them anyway. Are the 1973 and 1974 team checklist cards part of the "complete" set? They came in wax packs. I have the 1974 to go with my complete 1974 set. I do not have the 1973 as they were not(as far as I know)not issued in packs in New Jersey. Now do I have to get them to finish my 1973 set? I have completed 1939-1941 Playball sets, and decided to focus on the older stuff.I have not bought a Topps, Fleer, or Donruss since 1999. Here lies questions about a "complete" set. I would never attempt 1933 Goudey as I would have to have Lajoie. I can not attempt T206 as I can not get the biggies. So I am working on Diamond Stars because I find the fronts gorgeous. My problem-the high numbers are the exact same front pictures as their low number. The high number commons are $100 a shot. And Bill Dickey? Then you get into the back variations of Blue or Green. And a few fronts with name and team changes. This keeps me up at nights.
Yes, I did chase-and have, all the 1974 and 1973 variations. They look pretty interesting side-by-side in my albums. I like front variations. So to answer- I have no idea if YOU have to have the Traded set. But it sounds to me like you want it. Many on the Pre-WW2 board told me this-a complete set is what you want it to be.So MY complete Diamond Star set will be cards 1-96 with the front variations. Topps complete Sets 1953,1955,1961, 1972-1999 Playballs 1939,1940,1941 3 years in the making-20 short of Diamond Stars. |
